Good morning, A newbie to the forum but not a newbie to Fords After owning numerous Transits/connects, I decided it was time to buy a car so opted for a 2010 MK2 Focus, 1.8 Zetec sport with the Duratec HE engine or at least thats whats on the engine cover so presume its that engine, it is a 1.8 though.

My wife has a 2007 Focus 1.8 petrol, and it recently started running rough, switching to limp home mode, showing engine system failure on the dash, and cutting out without warning. We had a local Ford dealer carry out a diagnostic as we had previously been stranded and had to be recovered by the AA.
Sounds like an immobiliser fault, likely to be caused by bad soldering in the dash cluster (speedo clocks), fairly common issue on the Mk2 although less frequent on the Mk2.5. If you have a Windows laptop I'd recommend Forscan over any generic OBD scanner.

Last night however I was driving home and as I was approaching a roundabout at 40mph in 5th gear I changed down to 3rd gear then to 2nd gear and the engine systems fault warning light came on. The car then started "juddering" and would not go above 20mph or 2000 revs. I pulled over after crawling round the roundabout and turned the engine off.
